#4: In Zoom
The series In Zoom came around when the pandemic hit the entire world. Me and Joseph, my husband, we were about to travel to our usual destinations like Paris and London and New York, and then suddenly everything was stopped. All the production stops, the world stopped. Everyone was holding their breath, literally and metaphorically. Besides the feelings of worry and fear, and the usual ones, I was always thinking about my creativity and how I can continue expressing myself, because I knew that if I want to survive mentally, then I will need to be still be able to create somehow. So me and Joseph, we sat down already in the taxi home when we started thinking about a technology that would allow me to do so, to continue creating.
We tested the technology on zoom conversations with our friends and with models that we knew that were also caught out somewhere in their apartments or hotels. Shortly after that, I was contacted by an editor of the magazine of The Cut, and she asked me if we could photograph something that would reflect the current state in an artistic, beautiful and experimental way, which we did. It was the cover of The Cut, depicting Chloe Sevigny, who was nine months pregnant in her apartment. After that, we went on photographing for many different publications, including several editorials and covers for Vogue China with Zhou Dongyu, who was a delight to work with.
