#0: Introduction

I'm Ekow Eshun, the curator of "Marvellous Realism." Here at Fotografiska Shanghai, we are presenting an exhibition on contemporary African photography, in partnership with the KT Wong Foundation. "Marvelous Realism" is the first and largest group exhibition of contemporary African photography in Asia, bringing together over 20 artists from across the African continent. This exhibition offers a new perspective to think and look at how African photographers perceive and reflect on Africa, while also embracing a broader scope of thought.

When we think about Africa, it's important not to be confined by geography and boundaries but to consider its infinite possibilities. This is precisely what this exhibition explores—how artists and photographers are reimagining Africa, invoking it as a source of inspiration and possibility in visual art, expressing new ways of seeing and feeling.
