The Pet Show #17 罗伯特·巴胡 Robert Bahou

There!, 2015, Animal Soul Robert Bahou

Robert Bahou

B. 1993, Jordan

In Animal Soul, Jordanian-Dutch photographer Robert Bahou created a collection of striking, honest, and personal portraits of dogs and cats. Portraits that seek to capture the unmistakable soul within the eyes of our most familiar animals. Animal Soul was guided by the fascination that where humans alter themselves for a portrait, an animal will look into the lens with absolute sincerity. An apparent absence of ego that leaves the feeling of a true connection between camera and subject.

The entire series was photographed on location at the animals’ homes. This was to minimize their distractions and keep them comfortable. It had the added benefit of making Bahou the most curious subject in the room, particularly useful – as many might imagine – with cats.Photographing animals is an incalculable ad- venture. We can prepare our composition, our lighting, our stage, the rest is up to them.
