Back in 2009, the Director of Paris’s Museum of Hunting and Nature commissioned Schneck to produce a series of photographs of 60 dogs whose owners were famous French people. A gallery of portraits featuring these stern dog photographs was created in the museum, in an anthropomorphic parody of the portraits of famous ancestries that can sometimes be found in European castles. This exhibition mesmerized art critics and the public and was hugely successful.For shooting sessions, dogs had to don black scarves, an accessory which perhaps facilitated their holding hieratic stance in front of the camera. Responding to Schneck’s talents at whispering to their ears, all dogs in the series behaved like professional models, whether owned by real noble men, fashion icons or French président.
