#15: Versailles
In 2019, I was invited by the Palace of Versailles in Paris, in France to participate a in a group show with four other photographers. And they gave us carte blanche, but they wanted us to somehow make work, which was related to Versailles to the palace.
At first, it's quite overwhelming because Versailles, as it's so huge, it's so enormous. It's pretty difficult as an artist to make something within this kind of environment. So you have to make something which really stands out and can be in dialogue with the surroundings of the palace, which is so overwhelming.
At first, I started doing a lot of research about the history of Versailles. I read a lot of books about the Sun, King Louis XIV, Marie Antoinette, and about that period of time, and French revolution, et cetera.
I started making pictures in a lot of different places in and around the palace. The great thing was that I was allowed to visit the palace when there was no one, like when was closed for the public. There was a guy with this huge chain of keys, and I could go wherever I wanted, and he would open each and every door that I wanted to open.
And for 6 months, I was visiting the palace regularly. I showed all these images. These are a few images that I shot in and around the palace.
