#9: The small museum
One of the people that I met in Pickensley was Eton. Eton was the cook of the museum. They made a small museum, which is very interesting, because sometimes people come to visit the village, and they wanted to preserve their culture. So they made a small museum. Eton is the cook of the museum, and he's really a great cook in the middle of the jungle. They have a small museum, it's really interesting, the thing was that, at some point, there was a cultural exchange between people from Holland and people from the village.
Then there is a small group of Rastafari in the village. They are also artists, they work with wood. There was this cultural exchange, one of the men, one of the artists came to Amsterdam. And so at some point, somebody showed him a historical museum for different cultures. And he saw the museum, he had never been in a museum before. But then he saw all these artifacts which were there. And he thought like, wow, this is something we live with every day. We also have these kind of artifacts and the way we decorate our houses. All of these things. So then he decided that he wanted to make and preserve his own culture and to make a little museum in the village, which is very special.
