#2-1: Movement
This section of the exhibition, Marvellous Realism, is dedicated to the theme of "movement"—movement within cultures. It can refer to movements within societies, or the difficult migrations that must take place within countries or cultures, driven by violence or climate change. At the same time, it can also refer more broadly to the historical movements that African peoples have made across the globe, in such difficult circumstances, from the beginning of the slave trade, where 12 million Africans were forcibly transported to the Western world.
Africa is not a static territory; it's not a single idea, not a single proposition, and it is certainly not an isolated place. Africa is embodied in a group of people in constant motion, in conversation and exchange, traveling as a society, and engaging in an ongoing dialogue with the world.
